| Flea Market in Anjuna, Goa |
Anjuna’s famous Flea Market (South Anjuna, 8am-sunset every Wednesday) is a relic from the early hippie days in the 1960s and 70s when hashish was legal and sold just like today’s vendors hawk cheap T-Shirts and wooden knick –knacks. The market’s original avatar was small-scale, sometimes relied on barter rather than cash, and was mostly used by foreigners looking to raise the money to stay on or get home. Now tens of thousands converge on the flea market every Wednesday from October to April in a Convoy of scooters, motorbikes and truck that throws up huge cloud of dust. The market sprawls over a plateau by the beach with hundreds of stalls selling everything from tie-bye bikinis to chillums and sitars to cushion covers.
