Panjim, Goa retains an old fashioned character that feels quite
different from any other state capital in India. The architecture
is low-rise, Latinate, with plenty of green spaces, and the river
front setting ensures a pleasant and breezy atmosphere that feels
positively Caribbean. Panjim, Goa is best explored on foot. Wander
along the Mandovi River front, tale a stroll under the overhanging
street arcades of 18th June Road. The original colonial capital now
known simply as Old Goa, is an area of empty avenues an ancient
Churches. It’s a few kilometers away, linked to modern Panjim by
centuries old causeway that stretches through backwaters and
traditional salt pans and passes through some of the states earliest
colonial architecture at Ribander.
Hotels & Resorts in Panjim
Panjim’s commercial centre is dominated by the baroque Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, near the municipal garden. An impressively large church sitting atop criss-crossing whitewashed stairways, it has become an instantly recognizable symbol of the city, and looms over the road leading to the Altinho Hill, with the Garcia da Orta Garden on one side. |
|
| Along the Dada Vaidya Road that hugs the Altinho Hill is the Mahalaxmi Temple. Panjim’s old Latin Quarter and heritage district is Fontainhas. Nearby is the neatly maintained heritage inn complex run by the Sequeria Sukhijia family, that Includes Panjim Pausada, a restored traditional Hindu home; Panjim Inn, a quirky old Goan double-storey house; and the more upmarket Panjim People’s, formerly a high school. |

Horse Shoe, Panjim
This is probably the best restaurant in Panaji serving authentic Portuguese food. The ambience is typically Portuguese and gives the feeling of an era gone by. The food is really good and the place is definitely worth a visit. I have heard that the owner himself is the chef and you can feel the difference from the time you enter the place.
The dishes worth a try are the fish curry and the seafood in butter garlic. The prawn curry rice is also good and so is the chicken Carfeal. Visit this place if you want to try out or if you love Portuguese food.

Delhi Darbar, Panjim
Other than the Tandoori and Mughlai selection, equally delicious is the Prawans Lasuni ( garlic flavoured prawns), Gosht Achari (chef's special), Sarson Ka Saag (tempered mustard greens served along with a com Bread called Makii Ki Roti), Malai Kofta (deep fried cottage cheese balls cooked in a creamy gravy), Jeera Aloo (the humble potato temepered with cumin and chillies) as well as Dal Makhani ( a mixture of black gram and red kidney beans simmered for hours to amalgamate all the flavours). A basketful of hot Indian breads like naans, kulchas, paranthas and roomali roti best complement the kebabs and are good to mop up the rich rogan josh and makhani gravies with, while the briyanis and pulaos come redolent with the distinct aroma of Basmati rice.

Mum's Kitchen
Mum's Kitchen, in a nutshell, is a growing movement headed by a group of dedicated people from the culinary field striving to rescue it from extinction. Here, the "MOTHERS" from different parts of Goa have contributed, and helped us compile our menu. Here every effort is taken to sustain the genuineness and quality of each recipe, and to bring on to the table some very delectable 'archaic' dishes.
